Have you answered the most important question? “What is your WHY?”
“Leadership expert Simon Sinek calls this “the golden circle.” He says that it’s not enough to know what you do and how you do it. At our essence, we are most motivated by knowing why we do things. And it’s through that awareness that we can best connect with and sell to others.” ~ Huffington Post
When you don’t identify the answer to “What is Your WHY?”, you can’t:
-
Stay focused and operate inside your zone of genius
- Burnout, frustration, and bad decisions happen when we try to take on jobs/tasks that we’re NOT that good at. How many times have you said YES to something just because you thought you knew enough to make that quick buck? When you abandon your zone of genius it’s a slippery slope to feeling overworked, like you’re losing control, under appreciated, disconnected and taken advantage of.
-
Be successful at staying motivated or at motivating others.
- Fear is a common reason for a lack of motivation. It’s the stealer of joy around the world. When you are clear about your WHY, and the path it took you to get there, fear is irrelevant. You’ll learn to move IN SPITE of your fear. It will be easier to do because you’ll understand the importance of getting your product/service/idea out to the masses.

Shake those limiting beliefs and/or need validation from others
- Ooh.. I hate limiting beliefs. In most cases, they are negative tapes given to us by someone else. What a shame it would be to allow someone to hold us hostage and keep us from achieving our greatness? My advice is to grab that emotional baggage and go through it. Take EVERY piece out, determine where it came from and send it packing… Once you’ve got your bag empty, you can start repacking it with your personal framework items and tools for a more confident and attractive bag. It will prove more beautiful AND valuable than ANY designer bag out there.
Knowing your WHY is paramount when you want to grow a business, build a career, get married, start a friendship… just about everything. Of course, in some situations it’s more important than others, but you have to admit knowing WHY you are doing something makes the decision to do it (or NOT do it) much easier. It also makes it much easier to stay the course when things get hard.
The fact is, limiting beliefs are real, procrastination and self-sabotage can be crippling, and not “feeling good enough” can kill dreams. If these aren’t enough reasons to do a little self reflection or answer the question, “What is your WHY?”, I think this video will also be quite helpful:
