Philanthropy: Stand For Something Or Fall For Anything
lanWhether it was Alexander Hamilton or Peter Marsha, the truth has never been more wisely spoken.
If you don’t stand for something, you’ll fall for anything.
As the founder of a nonprofit, The Unique Friends Foundation, and the member of a family filled with pastors (believe me, you have to be selfless to serve in the church…lol), I feel like I have several philanthropic bones in my body.
In this episode of P. B. & Style I want to offer some thoughts on an article I came across in Forbes where contributor, Brian Rashid shares “5 Priceless Benefits Entrepreneurs Gain From Philanthropy”.
After listening, leave a comment and share how you’re being a champion in your area.

Facing Fears and Overcoming Doubts
OH. MY. GOODNESS!!!! I just completed months of work with the launch of my SUMMIT!! The BTB (Be the Brand) L3 Summit. The process was a little involved, but the content and my choice of facilitators was really an act of God. I truly believe in divine authority and God showed up and showed out for this event. I am excited to say it will be coming to a city near you so be sure to take a peek HERE to learn more.
Onward and upward, as the saying goes…. This episode of P. B. & Style is a little nod to the process of creating a brand, event, collaboration or whatever that fear is, standing in the way of you achieving your goals. I’m offering my thoughts (proven thoughts, might I add) on FACING FEARS, and OVERCOMING DOUBT.
Oh, don’t give me that look…..
Everyone faces fears and EVERYONE has (at some point or another) to overcome doubt. The question is…. Do you have the proper foundation in place to help you do both?
Listen to this episode, then **leave a comment below. Tell me YOUR method to the ‘fear and doubt‘ madness you use when you face them.
There’s nothing like learning from the experience of others. There’s no since in reinventing the wheel…It feels good to help others move forward, RIGHT!

Reading Is The New Greeting
This week I’m in NC with my mother. She just had surgery. I’m playing Florence Nightingale while she recuperate this first week out of the hospital. As I thought about what to share on the podcast this wee, a certain phenomenon happening in my circle of influence came to mind. READING! Yep, you read that right! Lol!!!
Reading is definitely the NEW GREETING. For the last few months I’ve recognized how important it is to stay in the books. Not just any books, however. The one’s that make doing business better, easier, more impactful (and the beat goes on). Now I’m an avid reader so I don’t want you to think the concept of reading is new to me. I read EVERY DAY. I’ve been on a big “better my business and the way I do it” binge lately.
Confidence, certainty, credibility and Strategy are all affected by the pages in which you have your bookmark stuck. It’s not IF you read, but WHAT you read that makes reading the new greeting.
In this weeks podcast, I’m talking about how people are starting, having, and ending conversations by inquiring about what you’re reading or have read.
Leave your favorite books in the comments below and tell me how the knowledge has helped your business.
My Affinity Wearable Art Business Highlight
I HAVE A SURPRISE!!!!! This episode is ALL ABOUT celebrating a business that has passion and empathy for other creatives. Leslie Fuller of My Affinity Wearable Art is not just talented in her own right, she is motivated and enthusiastic about helping other creatives gain exposure. That’s why I am breaking the mold of P. B. & Style, putting a little more emphasis on STYLE, and doing a Business Highlight.
I know it’s not the norm for my podcast, but the spirit moved me and I just had to share this. Personal branding is about leveraging your talents/value across platforms with a consistent message and image to achieve a specific goal. Personal STYLE is how uniquely you choose to do it. This means it’s important to tap into what makes you special and then rock it like only you can. Don’t keep it to yourself!
This is exactly what Leslie is doing with her latest project. During this interview, she is (in my opinion) laying down some amazing tidbits for following your dream and overcoming obstacles to achieve goals.
Listen and you’ll understand why she and My Affinity Wearable Art were chosen for our very first business highlight.
That’s not all. Leslie is giving you a great gift! In addition to shopping her amazing artwork, she’s got something special to share as a THANK YOU for listening!
After listening, LEAVE A COMMENT to share how you’re using your creativity to wow your customers.
Enjoy!

Leadership Is Steering The Ship
So often I find myself thinking about what it takes for me to BE… and DO... my best. To be in leadership. I am constantly looking for ways to improve, grow, simplify. Part of that for me, is meeting and learning from amazing people. This week’s episode of P. B. & Style is the perfect example of what happens when you put yourself out there and JUST ASK for what you want.
Around October of last year, I was supporting a good friend during an event for her networking group. I was at the bar grabbing a drink (water of course – wink wink) when I struck up a conversation with a very nice lady. The conversation started out innocently enough, “Hello, how are you? Where are you from? What do you do? —- BINGO!!! From that simple an organic conversation (Me being me), I found myself building a collaborative relationship with a LEADERSHIP expert. Elena’s background is extensive, but what lit my fire was the fact that she is now a LEADERSHIP/ Passion & Purpose Coach. It just so happened, I needed one of those. I needed HER to participate in an upcoming event and didn’t know it until THAT moment.
Cards were exchanged, emails were sent and calls were made but the end result is this amazing podcast interview AND Elena being one of the amazing people sharing their individual leadership accomplishments during my L3 SUMMIT coming up at the end of the month.
I WASN’T AFRAID TO ASK FOR WHAT I WANTED AND IT WORKED OUT!
TWEETABLE: Leadership is knowing no person is an island, and having enough confidence in your value to steer the ship and navigate the waters.

The Believers Mindset
I am often complimented on my ability to stay positive and be cheerful. I attribute this to my mindset. I have plenty of reasons to complain, but I choose not to.
In this podcast episode of P. B. & Style, I’m sharing my ideas for achieving a BELIEVERS MINDSET. The term “Believer” is meant to describe the attitude one has towards ones self and the way that attitude manifests itself.
There are three points I want to make about a BELIEVERS MINDSET because they have helped me and I’ve had enough people tell me (both verbally and through their actions) that they need this information.
After you’ve listened, I’d love to hear your thoughts on mindset. What do you do keep a positive one? How are you encouraging others and staying encouraged yourself?

Work-Life Balance
Wanting it all and having it all are two VERY different things. It takes discipline, intention, and ACTION! You can’t sit on your bum and think it will just happen… IT WON’T! I have to work hard to stay on track towards the goals I’ve set for myself because being disciplined, isn’t my strong suite. I would much rather be somewhere CREATING and doing my own thing. That being said (going back to my opening sentence), “WANTING IT ALL AND HAVING IT ALL ARE TWO VERY DIFFERENT THINGS”.
Over the past seven years of having businesses, I have learned a few things about WORK-LIFE BALANCE. I realized (and made sure those around me knew), I am only ONE PERSON. That song, “I’m Every Woman” by Shaka Khan is fun to sing, but I’ve resigned myself to the fact that it’s not me she’s talking about. Trying to do and be all is just too much for me. If you’re like me, this post will be very helpful to you. I’m sharing my lessons regarding WORK-LIFE BALANCE and how personal branding and authentic marketing play a role in the strategies I’ve created for myself.
-
First, I had to open my eyes to the fact that I’M NOT LIKE EVERYBODY ELSE! When I first started as a married woman, I thought I HAD to do certain things and be a certain way because that’s what I saw other wives doing. It made me CRAZY! The things that I saw my mother do or heard friends talk about sometimes didn’t apply to me or my relationship and to force situations to fit into a relationship box of another persons, making was exhausting and futile. What I learned was…I’m not like everybody else. In order for me to be happy, I had to establish my own relationship rules and pull away from the advice and negativity of others. The lesson opened my eyes to a non-negotiable I use today in my business… Find what works for me and do THAT.
-
Next, I realized to much means too messy. I don’t process well when there is too much going on around me. If I feel overwhelmed, I become paralyzed with anxiety of not knowing what to tackle first. It’s horrible to know things need to get done, but not know where to begin to make the biggest impact. I have so many balls juggling at any given moment, that I sometimes feel like I’ve dropped all of them and don’t know which to pick up first. Because of this, I am a PURGER! If I don’t use it, I get rid of it. If it’s not working, I stop using it. If he’s/she’s/it’s high maintenance OR too much trouble…. I let he/she/it go. I use this lesson to establish standard operating practices in my business and evaluate whether potential clients and/or collaborators are a good fit. When things are more complicated than they need to be or prove to be detrimental to myself or my business, to much means too messy definitely applies.
-
Lastly, when it comes to WORK-LIFE BALANCE, I recognized my role in the BALANCE part. Allowing others to control my time was a HUGE mistake. Thanks to my stint with Premier Designs Jewelry, I learned to take back the control of my calendar. Unfortunately, it would take another few years to learn about the concept of BLOCK SCHEDULING, BATCHING, PROJECT MANAGEMENT. Let me help you, if you don’t already know…
-
BLOCK SCHEDULING is amazing! The best person I’ve heard talk abut it is Jordan Page of Fun, Cheap or Free, Budget Boot Camp, and Productivity Boot Camp. It completely changed my life. I mean, like I said, I knew about controlling my calendar and not letting clients dictate when I would work, but this took THAT to a whole new level. Now I have days for my business and days for my nonprofit. I have specific times for appointments already built into my schedule so if a doctors appointment is needed or a client wants to meet, I have set times. It’s SOOOOO GOOODDDD!!! Watch her video on the subject and get busy making magic with your calendar too.
-
BATCHING is something I picked up on from watching some of my favorite youtubers in action. Before discovering this concept, I was like a worker bee, diligently creating content the week it was suppose to be released. I frantically tried to come up with topics to discuss on my blog and wrote soooo much content and created so many strategies for myself I found myself in the “To much too mess” bucket. The idea is to pick time in your calendar (BLOCK SCHEDULE) to create multiple pieces of content for which ever medium you’re using to engage your audience. For me, I do my videos, podcasts, and now blog posts this way. GAME CHANGER!!! Amy Landino is someone I watch for #BOSSUP ideas and she has a great video describing how to batch time and content.
-
PROJECT MANAGEMENT TOOLS have become a fetish of mine. I love ASANA! I use it for my content calendar. When I started block scheduling my time, I began batching content for my podcast, videos and blog but I needed something to organize it all. I had been using Asana to manage different projects and campaigns but REALLY started using it at the end of 2018 to stay on track with my content. AMAZING!!! It’s quite easy to use and extremely powerful when combined with the other tips I’ve shared already.
-
I said it before and I’ll say it again, “It takes discipline, intention, and ACTION! You can’t sit on your bum and think it will just happen… IT WON’T!” To find the WORK-LIFE BALANCE you’ve been craving, follow the tips I’ve laid out in this blog post and start working smarter, not harder.

Personal Branding & Podcasting with FriedoNation
I love podcasting…It has proven to be a great way for me to express my passion and share my content with my audience. For me, talking to people has never been a huge issue, my loved ones say I “..would talk to a brick wall if I thought it would talk back”… lol! TRUE! Especially if the WALL has something juicy to share…lol! THAT’S ME though. For others, public speaking, video, etc. is an issue. It makes them nervous and anxious just to think of it.. That’s what brings me to this little conversation with my friend Mark Friedman of FRIEDONATION. He’s a gentle soul and normally I would gush and gush over him but he gets embarrassed from my attention..lol!
As I continue to work with my clients, I see them struggling to fully communicate and engage with their audience in a way that shares their strengths and value.
Now you know I’m going to find a way to bring everything back to authentic marketing and personal branding, so sit back relax and listen to the magic happen between Mark and me!
If you find you’re struggling with how to get your passion out to the world in a clear, consistent and authentic way, you should consider a podcast. Either solicit to be on someone else’s or start your own. If you, like the clients Mark and I have, don’t have time to produce… give one of us a call. We’d be happy to help you give your passion purpose through podcasting!
