Effective Leadership & Your Personal Style
What You Need To Know About Their Relationship
If you’re wondering why I’m doing a post on the effective leadership and your personal style, let me clear things up. In John Maxwell’s book,”21 Irrefutable Laws of Leadership”, he says, “True Leadership cannot be awarded, appointed, or assigned. It comes only from influence and that cannot be mandated.” It goes on to say, “To be a leader, a person has to not only be out front, but also have people intentionally coming behind him, following his lead, and acting on his vision.”
Your style story is the first conversation you’re going to have with people. If it is spoken fluently, and with confidence, that narrative will result in a positive first impression and therefore, lead to the potential for positive results. This is why I often say, “If you look good, you feel good, and if you feel good about how you look, you’ll have confidence.”
What do people look for in a leader? They look for confidence, credibility, creativity, and to feel like they are in good hands. Believe it or not, these characteristics are all ASSUMED upon someone SEEING you for the first time. This is why your style story is so important. Learning the language of your personal style will drastically improve the non-verbal communication you’re currently having during those unspoken conversations you aren’t even aware are happening.
Are you a people watcher, like me?
My husband and I can make a date out of sitting at the food court in the mall [am I dating myself…lol!!!]. How many time have you been to a conference, church, or a networking event, and thought “She’s so sophisticated”.
I would venture to say, it’s because you thought they looked the part. You were making an assumption based on the way they LOOKED.
Get it?
If you want your style story to reflect a certain narrative, there are a few steps I think you should know about. In this video, I’m sharing my S.T.Y.L.E. System. It’s part of my book, DECODED: Unlocking the Secret To Your Style Message. Watch and get the added bonus of seeing how I do my seasonal closet reset. Additionally, THIS VIDEO is a great resource for understanding the value of creating a STYLE UNIFORM.
What your clothes say matters. The relationship between effective leadership and your personal style is a close one. You may NOT be a people watcher like my husband and I. Assumptions are inevitable. The narrative of your STYLE STORY is leading the conversation.
