I’ve come to realize there is a relationship between hardship, habits, and harmony. We all go through hardships, our habits contribute to them AND help us overcome them but if we want to experience a harmonious life, we have to answer some hard questions.
#1 Who Am I REALLY?
This question is broad but the answer is necessary. You don’t need to know with 100% accuracy, just what is needed to do and be your best. Our hardships typically come when we don’t manage external circumstances well. We don’t handle these circumstances well because we don’t know our triggers, limitations, or boundaries. In answering this question it’s a good idea to do what I call, “unpack your hobo bag”. We all have baggage but if you allow other people’s ideas, expectations, and opinions to take up residence in YOUR bag you end up with a worn out, distressed bag that’s too heavy for you to carry on your own. Ditch the extra weight. You’ll still have stuff to work on but it will be YOUR stuff alone.
#2 What Do I Want?
The funny thing about unpacking your baggage is you can finally see what it is YOU really want and value. You’ve rid yourself of the expectations of others and determined what makes you special. Now it’s your time to shine, doing the thing you love the most. I always ask my clients, “What do you love so much you could do it with your eyes closed, hands tied behind your back, out of a deep sleep, and you’d do if for free?” Whatever that is, find a way to monetize it because doing it will never feel like work. Besides what you do, how do you want to live your life? What do you want to be known for? The first quarter of a new year is always filled with people talking about their vision board, their word of the year and the changes they want to make to get different results. Listen, it may be true that a goal without a plan is just a wish, BUT a plan without effort is just a dream. In this video, I’m sharing 8 Habits I believe you need to form if you want to change your life:
Doing what you want is a benefit of living unapologetically and being intentional with your time. How many of these habits have you adopted? How many do you need to start working on?
#3 How Do I Bridge The Gap?
Inevitably, we find ourselves feeling like we’re treading water. No matter how hard we try, it’s difficult to understand why we put forth so much effort but don’t seem to be any closer to the THING we’ve been working so hard to get to. “The Lenny Swerve” is what I call it….lol!!! Have you ever watched someone who’s had a little too much liquid courage try to walk a straight line? They think they’re going straight but in fact, they are side stepping off the intended path. That’s the Lenny swerve. Bridging the gap is the act of getting from where you are (and in most cases, have been for a really long time) to where you want to be with intentional effort. My podcast, The CEO Mindset, focuses on actions you can take to constantly evolve and be open to failures so you can bridge your gaps of life. No one can do this for you and you can’t imitate your way through. You have to know who you are and what you want then bridge the gap to get there.
Life can be full of hardships, but when you start consistently doing the things that get you closer to what you want AND use who you know yourself to be to do it, you’ll tap into the harmony of life that makes everything worth it.
