Your Personal Style Has A Loud Voice
Boy Did I Get A Lesson In Personal Style
Years ago, when I was more into fashion, I found myself at one of my very first fashion shows. I went with a girlfriend, and I remember being so nervous about what to wear.
My thought was…if I’m gonna be in this industry… If I’m gonna be at the show, then obviously I need to BRING IT when I show. In my head, I thought, everyone is going to be expecting it. I ultimately put on a red wrap dress, Because Diane Von Furstenberg had created this wrap dress and had said it was THE dress for all body types. I thought that would be THE PERFECT look.
WELL, LET ME TELL YOU…
When I got to the fashion show guys, there were some of the strangest outfits there I’d ever seen. I mean, I felt people just showed up looking any kinda way. I was embarrassed FOR THEM!!
Quite frankly, the truth of the matter was, these people were completely confident in their look?
They were wearing it like there was nothing wrong with it. They seemed like what they were wearing was perfectly fine. I was the one who was uncomfortable. I was the one who was struggling and second guessing my look.
Here’s the thing, guys. I was the one in the wrong. I didn’t have to understand WHY they were confident. They were displaying their style, a decision had been made about their look, and the narrative they wanted to convey was clear… According to them, I’m sure they thought their look was saying exactly what they wanted it to say.
That was the night I realized fashion is relative. It doesn’t have to be liked by anyone other than the person wearing it.
HOW IS THAT POSSIBLE, ANDREA?
The people that I was so embarrassed for their fashion choices, had a style. They had designed their look around what they wanted to say, how they wanted to look saying it and all of the things in between.
That is what I want for you. I want you to be so confident in your personal style choices that you wear your clothing boldly, unapologetically, and you walk out of your house knowing that the outfit you put together speaks the narrative.
That said, I feel it is imperative that you know what your personal style is and you care about your look. I want to hear what you have to say on the subject. Do you believe your clothes speak volumes when your mouth is closed, or do you think whatever you wear is your business? If the latter is true, do you further believe your appearance has NO bearing on how people perceive you? I’m curious! Leave a comment below and tell me how you feel about this topic.
